by Mark on Aug.31, 2012, under Blog

Hello everyone!

Cage warriors promotions took me out yesterday at the Citadel of Amman city to do a cool photo shoot. Here is one of their pics;

In Amman city; a Roman theatre. This was constructed under the rule of Marcus Aurelius (AD 162-166) I could hear the gladiator spirits giving me some tips ;)

This has been a super cool experience so far! Now I can’t wait to step on the official scale! Last night I went at it hard, I had a lot of pressure and was really nervous about making weight but I did it! Way under too; 153lbs! Lots of sauna, lots of hard work too and it paid off. A lot of it was diet I believe. I’d like to thank my mom and Angela for helping me and supporting me through this hard month of dying\dieting ;) They are the reason I made it!

I am very happy and very proud to be able to make 155lbs again, it has been more then a year that I haven’t done so. I am back in the lightweight division! I thought it was going to be much harder but it was actually one of my easiest cut.

In a few hours I will be stepping on the scale and then finally be able to enjoy all this good looking food :)

I will fill you in so more later on! Take care everyone

I got Hercules good luck!

by Mark on Aug.30, 2012, under Blog

Hello everyone!

This is an amazing experience. Nick Castiglia and I went all over the place already in two days! A big thanks goes out to Cage Warriors for brining me out here. This is a beautiful country and has so much history.

So far what we have visited ; Hercules temple in Amman city, Zeus Temple in the city of Jerash and finished our traveling around Jordan by taking a lil’ swim in the Dead Sea :)

Now the fun stuff; the weight cut. I haven’t check my weight yet but will tonight on the official scale. I am feeling high in energy, I think it’s going to be a hard cut but hopefully not too too hard! The food here looks amazing, can’t wait to enjoy it haha!

I just finished doing a really cool interview in Amman downtown with Cage Warriors and it will be up on their website soon. I will be posting it on here too. If you guys want to see pictures add and check out on facebook Nick Castiglia. He is posting up recent pics of our adventures, I will try to get my hands on some pics too and post them on here.

The weather here is very hot, the food looks amazing, the people are very nice and the whole city is beautiful! Loving this experience. Patty C arrives this afternoon, I am sure he will enjoy this country and experience, I already spotted a nice steak house for us to eat at :)

Take care everyone

Amman here I come!

by Mark on Aug.28, 2012, under Blog

Hello everyone,

Nickel and I took a lil’ snooze and now we are full of energy and recharged from the jet lag! I already adventured around the hotel and it is b-e-a-u-tiful! WOW! Wait until you guys see the pictures. I already got on the treadmill and got my sweat on too so now that that’s out of the way, let the adventures begin! I saw some cool tourist attraction packages like the dead sea and Petra that I really want to visit. I’m about to go out and adventure around outside of the hotel in quest for water, lots of water! My weight is good and I have until Friday to make weight; 1pm Amman time.

I will fill you in on my adventures of Amman in the next days, the internet here is very good but limited.

Take care everyone,

As-salamu `alaykum

NYC Fights and Renzo Gracie Muay Thai NYC training!

by Mark on Aug.20, 2012, under Blog

Hello everyone!

I had a very busy weekend, driving down to NYC with Mona “Mantis” Noor and Stan “Honey Badger” Mancebo to corner them in their muay thai fight with the Friday Night Fights organization in NYC.

Both the OAMA Muay Thai fighters took this fight with 72 hrs notice and both of them made weight. Mona was already on weight but I had to cut weight with the giant killer; Stan Mancebo. I took this opportunity to train also with Kru Jamie Crowder at the Renzo Gracie Muay Thai NYC gym. Jamie really pushed me in class and I felt amazing after training so hard with him and the students.

The fight night was a tough one, Stan lost a very close split decision and Mona lost a tough fight by unanimous decision. Also I got the chance to see Kru Joe Sampieri fight as the main event. Big congrats to Kru Joe on his win. As for Mona and Stan I am very proud of them, they were fighting tough opponents with no training camp or notice, I believe they gained  a lot experience.

Like Kru Jeff would say; Fighters fight!

This morning I got to train with Kru Nick supervised by Pat Cooligan, my instructor. Both of them will be in my corner in Amman, Jordan when I face my opponent, Leo Santos in the Cage Warriors event September 1st. Thank you to Pat an Nick  for training me and helping me review the game plan.

Now the fun part begins: cutting weight!,

Take care everyone,

BoOts!

Big thanks to Kru Jaime for the training!

Training camp @ MAS Team Renzo Gracie in Cambridge.

by Mark on Aug.13, 2012, under Blog

Hello everyone,

I got just got back from a 4 day training camp @ MAS in Cambridge. MAS is where my Kru; Chris Kew and also Kru Jeff Harrison teaches out of.

For the 4 days I was there it was go go go, non stop training. I feel really good going through all that training, Kru Jeff planned everything out and made me work hard. I got to do pads training with the best Muay Thai trainer in Canada; Kru Chris Kew. I got to hit the mitts with Elroy Myers, an amazing boxing coach. I got to do SNC and train BJJ with Kru Jeff Harrison and I also got to spar and train with Muay Thai superstar Robert “The White Dragon” Thomas who will be making his PRO MMA debut on the SFS August 25th. I also got to move around with many of the MASonese muay thai warriors. I also taught and trained BJJ with Kru Jeff who is leading the BJJ program @ Renzo Gracie Cambridge Academy.

Kru Jeff conducted the training camp, made me feel like a F-1 car in the pit; Elroy working my boxing, Kru Chris working my muay thai, sparring Robert Thomas and meanwhile Kru Jeff coaching me and over seeing all of the training. Like Kru Jeff said, Rob and I bring the best out of each other. Robert really pushes me on the feet and I worked with him on the ground.I can’t wait for him to make his MMA debut, he will be a very exciting fighter to watch.

BIG thank you to Kru Chris Kew and Kru Jeff Harrison for having me over at their house and for the training at their academy. Also thank you to Elroy Myers, Robert Thomas, Marvelous Mitchell, Andrew, Denis and everyone that trained with me at MAS!

Now that I am back @ OAMA, I really felt that the MAS training camp is already paying off. I felt really sharp with my striking and I am slowly dropping the lbs. I am working the techniques and combos that I trained with Kru Chris, Kru Jeff  and Elroy at OAMA.

This week I will be training hard and getting back in the routine at OAMA. This morning I had a great training session with Kru Nick Castiglia on the pads and moved around with Kru Devin Henry, Fred Stonehouse and Brent. Thanks a lot guys!

I have a scheduled training session at the MTL wrestling center on Thursday and hard training planned for the rest of this week at OAMA with my teammates. I am also working hard to get my weight down, this is an international fight and I want to make sure that I will be way under due to the flight, traveling, etc. It has been a while I haven’t fought at 155lbs so I am being extra careful.

I will be posting again towards the end of this week.

Take care everyone,

BoOts!

My opponent September 1st; Leo Santos

by Mark on Aug.08, 2012, under Blog

Hello everyone,

As a lot of you know my next opponent is a very tough one, his name is Leo Santos. He is a legend and hero in the BJJ circuit all over the world and it will be an honor to fight him in the MMA Cage. He has the same record as me; 10-3 . I see this fight very black and white just like probably a lot of you BUT it is MMA. I have been in the sport for a long time and I know one thing; anything can happen in MMA, anything. On the ground Leo obviously has the advantage and I would give myself the advantage on the feet; that’s why I see this fight very black and white. Although I will not take his stand up game lightly. I have seen a lot of fight footage on Leo and he has a good high and low kick and also unorthodox striking.  It is MMA, it’s very different then Muay thai and BJJ competitions, anything can happen ;)

Here is a highlight of Leo Santos MMA fights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef-X5_0m0Qs

Training has been going very well at OAMA. Yesterday I had a great wrestling practice @ MTL wrestling club with Randy “Relentless” Turner. I got to see Georges St-Pierre do what he does best. I can’t wait to see him back in action, he is looking sharper then ever!

I am leaving tomorrow to train with my Kru’s; Kru Jeff Harrison and Kru Chris Kew. They are preparing their young prodigy Robert “The Dragon” Thomas for his pro MMA debut @ the Score Fighting Series. Robert is taller then me so it will be very good sparring and training with him since Leo Santos is also taller then me. I am looking forward to the 4 day training camp @ MAS in Cambridge.

I will be updating you guys from Cambridge on the training prep. Take care everyone,

BoOts!

Shark tank sparring!

by Mark on Aug.04, 2012, under Blog

Hello everyone,

Last night was  great training, I got a little surprise shark tank sparring, it was tough but I made it through. I had the Peterborough crew Brandon Hache and Jordan Preston training with me along with Randy “Relentless” Turner, Derek “Bowzer” Boase and Matt “Hammer” Hache. These five MMA fighters really turned it up and put me to work! Matt, Derek and Brandon are all undefeated in their PRO MMA careers. Thanks again guys.

I feel great today, a little stiff from training with my new strength and conditioning coach Adam Phomin @ CrossFit Closer but I have all weekend to recover and do it all over again on Monday, I’m feeling stronger and stronger every time.

Next post I will be talking a bit more about my opponent, Leo Santos, who I will be fighting September 1st in Amman, Jordan with the Cage Warriors promotion.

Enjoy the long weekend and take care,

BoOts!

Hammer ran out for that pic but those guys really put the boOts to me that night! Thanks again, this training will definitely pay off :)
