Coaching fighter’s from Sudbury to NYC, Seminar at RAMA this Saturday and WRECK MMA May 6th!
by Mark on Apr.26, 2011, under Blog
Hello everyone!
I was out to the Rumble on the Rocks CASK muay thai event in Sudbury held by Sudbury BJJ & Muay Thai. Jenny and Steve Joncas did a great job of putting the show together and it had a great turn out! Sudbury IS a fight city and the event was packed! That night I coached Jeff “Jackie” Chan from OAMA who fought a Team Matador fighter who won the Provincial championship this year! It was a big win on Easter week end for Jeff Chan and OAMA! Jeff Chan did great in the 1st round, followed the game plan to perfection: kick…kick…and kick! His opponent was shorter and had good clinch, so Jeff Chan stayed away from the clinch and just picked his opponent apart with kicks and movement! Jeff Chan showed great speed and excellent technique and came out with the win by majority decision! Good job Jeff, from all of your instructors at OAMA ; we are really proud of you!
Now tomorrow I will be taking Jeff Chan to fight in NYC! The weigh ins are on Thursday and fights are on Friday night! Two fights in two weeks, Jeff is all about fighting and shows that he is a real fighter! I will update you guys from NYC, should be a great fight, Muay thai pro-am rules
On Saturday I will be teaching a seminar at the RAMA school with Pat, Nick, Hammer and Kru Jeff! I can’t wait to get out there and meet everyone from Rockland Academy of Martial Arts, should be a great day followed by the UFC at night, can’t wait!
If you guys didn’t get your ticket for WRECK MMA on May 6th yet….you are crazy! Don’t wait last minute, it will be a sell out for sure and it’s an event you don’t want to miss! Kru Nick Castiglia will be fighting! He is making his long awaited comeback! The last time he fought was on the same card as me in Guam January 2007! I am so excited and can’t wait to be at the Hull Casino coaching the OAMA\RAMA fighters!
If you guys need tickets, email me at mark@oama.caI have the best of the cheapest tickets (60$ each) Let me know if you guys want me to put aside some “Boots tix” ASAP!
Take care everyone!

Hello everyone!
The training has been very intense at OAMA these last weeks. Mostly because we have a total of 5 fighters who will be stepping in the cage on May 6th at the Hull Casino. Kru Jeff, Randy Turner, Chris St-Jean, Marc Lefebvre and a new addition to the fight card is Cedric Grenon from Rockland Academy of Martial Arts! I will be dedicating all my time and effort to get them ready for the cage. The WRECK MMA card has so many exciting fights lined up, I hope everyone has their tickets.

by Mark on Apr.14, 2011, under Blog
Hello everyone!
I will be leaving tomorrow for the NYC Open BJJ tournament, I have been training really hard with the Gi and I can’t wait to get on the mat and compete! It will be a very tough tournament and good experience for me to prep up for the Worlds BJJ tournament in LA in June!
On another note, WRECK MMA will be putting on another great event at the Hull Casino on May 6th. The fight card is stacked with awesome fights! I will have 4 teammates fighting on the card; Kru Jeff, Randy, Batman and Marc Lefebvre! I will be taking part of the training camp, working with them everyday to get them ready for their MMA fight. So far they are all looking really sharp and they will be going for the 4-0, I can’t wait!
If you guys don’t have your tickets yet, send me an email at mark@oama.ca for some good ROW A ”BoOts tickets”
I have a bunch all together but let me know ASAP they are flying out!

In Toronto for the Ontario Open International Jiu-Jitsu Championship, Team Renzo Gracie cleans up! New academy: RAMA and Jean-Charles Skarbowsky in the house!
by Mark on Apr.06, 2011, under Blog
Hello everyone!
I just got back from a weekend in Toronto with the Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu team. In total Team Renzo Gracie (Ottawa, Kanata, Peterborough, Cambridge, Sudbury) had 92 Jiu Jitsu fighters. Team Renzo Gracie got the best Gi team award and the best no-gi team award! 1st place in both!
The Ontario Open was my first tournament in the purple belt division. My last tournament was in 2009. I felt a little rusty but I am happy I got some of the rust off! The competition was very tough and I had hard fights in my Gi and No-gi divisions. I ended up getting the bronze in the Gi and the silver in the no-gi divisions. I have a lot to work on my BJJ game and I am happy to be back on the mats competing. Although it was a lot of fun, I am not too happy with my performance but again, enjoying it and learning is what matters. I can’t wait for my next competition: NYC Open April 16th. The tournament will be with the Gi only. It will be a high level tournament with some hard competition, I can’t wait! I will keep you posted on how the training is going on the mats.
On another note, we have Jean-Charles Skarbowsky here at OAMA teaching seminars and kicking our butts! It’s awesome to have him down here teaching us great Muay thai and training with us all at the same time. Thanks a lot to Pat for bringing him down from Paris, France, to train with the OAMA Muay thai students.
A new school has been added to the OAMA family: RAMA (Rockland Academy of Martial Arts). It is great to have them as part of our team. RAMA is lead by Cedric Grenon who is also a purple belt and MMA fighter. He has a few MMA fighters already training at his school. This is a great addition to the OAMA family and Team Renzo Gracie and I are very excited to get out there and teach and train with everyone at RAMA.
And lastly, at the same time as the Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu fighters were competing in Toronto, the Throwdown in Otown muay thai fights were going up at the Tailgators on Merivale. Our Muay Thai fighters ended the night with 5 wins and 1 loss! Congrats to everyone who stepped in the ring and fought their hearts out: Phil, Jeff, Big Bear, Jorge, Cody and Martelo! Big ups and keep it going!
I will update you towards the end of the week on the training and more exciting news to come! Take care everyone!

Hanging out with Jean-Charles Skarbowsky
